It was a three-hour drive to the Snowy Mountains. We stayed for 3 days, 2 nights. Each family prepared one of the meals and we read a few chapters of the Bible at each mealtime. It was great! Lovely people, lovely house, lovely country. We saw kangaroos and a snake in the backyard. We rolled around in the grass.
We took the opportunity while we were there to go to Mt. Kosciusko - the highest mountain in the region. We borrowed a backpack for Hannah and decided to go see the top. However, we got to the mountain later in the day than planned because of the mountain bike races being held in the area.
So the tour operator (who should have known better) suggested taking the chair lift to the top and walking down the mountain back to the base rather than chair lifting to the top, walking the flat 1.5 km to the very top and then catching the chair lift back down (which only ran for another hour so we would have had to walk fast). Oh, you can see waterfalls on the way back, he said. Yeah right.
It was a walk labelled "extremely difficult" that was pretty much steep stairs for 90% of it. Halfway down the hikers behind us had a spill and the girl broke her ankle. Not fun! Rescue people were called and I had to do a bit of First Aid to stabilize her while waiting.
James and I traded off carrying Hannah. The girls were troopers. It took us almost 4 hours to get to the bottom. The "waterfall" was a creek bed to the right that had a trickle in it. I was so tired, my legs were shaking. Allison said "We should buy hiking boots if we keep hiking." Lucy said "I like hiking. But next time, let's choose a smaller mountain."

Yup, we're going down there! |
Happy girls at the start! Water bottles in hand! |
